Themed Topic

Hi everyone, It has been some time of the last time than I wrote something on this blog. The topic of today is a free topic, but it must relate to dentistry. So, I decided to write about, What kind of career is Odontology?

During my first year at university, in class, some teacher asked us the next question: The Odontology is a manual career or scientific career?

That day the students said many answers, but specifically, they said than is a science career, because we have many scientific subjects, like chemistry or biology and others, that we need develop and manage only to get the degree. But the professor answered us that in reality we studied these subjects to understand concepts, but that our work is manual.

Tecnología de ciencia ficción que ya es una realidad en ...I thought too much about the question and the answer. And after an analysis, I risk saying that we are both. Of course, in the clinic we work directly with restorative material and perform a series of manual procedures. But also, in the clinic we must analyze the patient and decide which procedure is the best, for that specific case.

In addition, in our career we study prevention, where it is important to manage sociology, and to develop diagnostics we must know the microbiology. I don’t learn concepts because yes, I do it to be able to use them, to develop hypotheses, do research, make conclusions, and all that is a scientific nature.

That was today's blog. I apologize for so much philosophical thinking. Take care and good bye.

  1. The question has giving me a lot sorts of thinking as well...In my view, the dentistry filed is part of a wider spectrum we call science, the particularity is that you dentists would perform your duties using mostly your hands. Nice entry!

  2. Yeah it really depends in what you will do after you graduate of dental school, like you can choose 3 paths, one way is to go for the clinical part of the carrear, the second one is to go for the investigation side or the last one is do both and I think this one is the best because in times like this If you are just clinical, you will suffer in an economic way but if you have a bit of the investigation side you can still work even if in this pandemic times somenthing.
